We can help with adaptations and/or equipment to support your independence:
We aim to enable customers to continue to live independently in their own homes by providing equipment and making modifications that meet their needs.
The process for getting support with assessments, adaptations, and equipment for disabilities varies depending on whether you’re a:
- Be One Homes tenant living in Bolton.
- Be One Homes tenant living outside of Bolton.
- Bolton resident living in a property that you own or rent from another housing association or private landlord.
Tap on the tabs below to learn more about how you can get help with home adaptations depending on your situation.

If you’re a Be One Homes tenant and live outside of Bolton, your local authority is usually responsible for home adaptations:
Each local authority usually has a team for home adaptations and assessments. How they work will vary, from how long you’ll have to wait, to how much funding is available.
You can tap here to find your local authority/council on the gov.uk website.
Get support with home adaptations if you're a Be One Homes tenant living in Bolton
If you’re a Be One Homes tenant and you live in Bolton, we can help with disabled facilities adaptations:
We'll look to support you to live independently following an assessment and referral from an Occupational Therapist (OT). If you feel you could benefit from adaptations or equipment to support your independence, please contact Bolton Council's Independent Living Service first to request an assessment by an Occupational Therapist.
You can contact Bolton Council's Independent Living Service on 01204 337020 to request an assessment by an Occupational Therapist. For more information on Bolton Council's Independent Living Service, tap here.
Based on the Occupational Therapist's assessment, they'll make a recommendation to us (Be One Homes) via a 'referral pathway'. This could result in either minor or major adaptations being provided - or both in some cases.
We're here to help. You can get more information on the adaptations process by calling our Disabled Adaptations Team on 01204 328177.

It's important that any adaptations and equipment are maintained:
- These pieces of equipment are all potentially hazardous to the user or anyone living in the property, especially if they aren’t properly used, maintained, and serviced.
To minimise the risks of an electrical or mechanical failure, or an accident, it’s important that the equipment is annually inspected by our insurers, annually serviced, and only repaired and maintained by our specialist contractors.
Bolton Care and Repair have a responsive repairs service for these types of equipment and an annual servicing and insurance inspection program.
All tenants who live in our properties containing such equipment have a responsibility to report mechanical issues or safety concerns and allow access to their property to enable our contractors to repair and/or make safe for use.
Reporting repairs and maintenance issues:
- You must report any repair issue with a stair lift, step lift, or through floor lift to us by calling 01204 328177 or 01204 328178 between the hours of 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
- Outside of these hours, you can report issues through to our contact centre on 01204 328000.
Repairs can only be carried out by our specialist contractors by prior arrangement on the above numbers.
You must not try to repair or remove any of this equipment yourself or use another contractor. All repairs must be arranged by contacting us.
Stannah will contact tenants directly to arrange a convenient date and time to carry out the annual service. You must allow access to Stannah so that they can annually service your equipment.
HSB will contact tenants directly to arrange a convenient date and time to carry out the insurance inspection. You must also allow access to HSB so that they can inspect your equipment.
Installing your own adaptations and equipment:
- You’ll need to seek our permission if you’d like to install your own stairlifts, step lifts, or through floor lifts.
We won’t cover repairs, maintenance, or annual servicing on equipment which has been provided privately. Any customer identified as needing such equipment needs to be assessed and referred to us by an approved Occupational Therapist.
