What does a solid fuel safety check involve?

The check involves maintenance and minor repairs to solid fuel burning appliances, as well as sweeping of the flue.

We’ll also check that there’s a carbon monoxide detector fitted in each room containing a solid fuel burning appliance or fire, and that it’s working correctly.

What if an appliance fails the safety check?

A label will be attached to the appliance stating ‘Do not use’. It’s important for your own safety that the appliance isn’t used until it’s declared safe to use again.

If the safety check shows that the solid fuel burning appliance or flue are beyond economical repair, we’ll remove the appliance and make good to the opening.

We’ll also install an electrical socket next to the chimney breast so that you can fit your own electric fire.

Can I install my own solid fuel appliance or log burner?

If we find a solid fuel fire or log burner in your home that you didn’t get our permission to install, we’ll require you to remove it.

What if my appliance isn't working properly?
